Commissions
A painting made just for you.
I offer a limited number of watercolor commissions each year for people who want something personal and one-of-a-kind. My commissions are rooted in the things I love to paint most: small towns, homes, natural landscapes, botanicals, pets, sea life, and other creatures. Have another idea in mind? I’d still love to hear it. Tell me what you’re imagining, and we can talk about whether it’s a good fit for my style, skills, and the kind of work I love creating.
Process
1. Tell me what you’re imagining
Fill out the commission application below and tell me about your idea. I’ll ask for details such as what you’d like painted, your preferred size, reference photos, any meaningful details you’d like included, your ideal timeline, and how you plan to display or use the artwork.
If you’re not quite sure what you want yet, that’s okay. You can tell me the story or feeling behind the piece, and we can start there.
2. I’ll review your idea
I’ll review your request and determine whether it’s a good fit for my style and current commission availability. I may reach out with questions, suggestions, or ideas for making the piece work best as a watercolor. I reserve the right to decline a commission if I don’t feel I can create the subject at the quality I expect from my work, if the project falls outside the types of work I offer, or if my current schedule doesn’t allow for it.
3. You’ll receive a quote
Once we’ve talked through the details, I’ll send you a final price and estimated timeline. The quoted price must be approved before I begin.
4. A 50% deposit gets your commission on my calendar
A 50% non-refundable deposit is required before I begin your commission. The remaining balance is due after the sketch has been approved and before I complete the final artwork. Payment is made by card through an online invoice.
5. Sketch approval
Once I begin, I’ll send you a sketch for approval. This is the time to make changes to the composition, placement, or major details. Please review the sketch carefully. Once you approve the sketch, I’ll move forward with the final painting. Minor adjustments may potentially be possible later in the process depending on light the pigment is, but changes after sketch approval may require an additional fee (especially if I have to start over!).
6. I paint!
This is where the magic happens. Depending on the piece, I may send you an additional progress update during the painting process. I generally provide updates at the sketch, mid-process, and final stages. I’ll let you know when your painting is complete and ready for its final check.
7. Your painting comes home
Once the final balance has been paid, I’ll carefully package your original artwork and get it ready to make its way to you.
Shipping costs, if applicable, will be included in your final invoice.
Pricing
Commission pricing is based on the size, subject, level of detail, and amount of work and edits involved. These are starting prices and do not include additional matting and framing. A final quote will be provided after I review your idea and reference images.
Commission Starting at:
4×6 Loose Floral: $150+
9×12 Loose Floral: $250+
9×12 Detailed Single Subject: $400+
9×12 Detailed Scene: $600+
Full Render / Highly Detailed Composition:$800+
What does “Full Render” mean?
A Full Render is my most detailed level of painting. Think rich textures, carefully rendered details, layered color, and a more fully developed composition. Detailed homes, landscapes, town scenes, or compositions with multiple subjects may fall into this category depending on the complexity.
Additional details, multiple subjects, complex architecture, or extensive composition work may increase the final price. I’ll always discuss that with you before you decide to move forward.
